This is the south door of the atrium of the main branch of the Vancouver Library. For the last few years I lived in Vancouver, I met at the library weekly with friends to share and critique photographs. One evening while leaving one of those meetings, I noticed a girl opening one of the large atrium doors for people exiting the building. I took my little digicam out of my pocket as my friends and I approached the door, powered it up, and took a faster step or two to get ahead of our little crowd.

Pause. Frame. Click.

The light wasn't ideal. I had to dodge and burn the image a bunch in Adobe Lightroom. But I had captured this playful moment of a girl on holiday amusing herself while waiting for her parents to catch up to her.

The postures/gestures are lovely. I like how the girl's act of opening the door frames her parents having some sort of moment themselves. It's like the girl is saying, "Welcome to my life."
