This composition is subtler than most of the preceding photographs in this portfolio. It's centralized, vertical, almost entirely created by the two central figures. The square crop helps this structure. The square frame also draws our eye to the wave of square, modern Roman cobbles which swirl around the little girl providing a perfect, almost studio-like, background to the picture.
The postures of father and daughter are strong, honest, so complimentary that they look posed. Their legs mirror each other: she's helping daddy with his deliveries. Their arms contrast: practical, workaday vs dreamy. The photograph works as a study of two worlds, those of adults and of children.
The shot verges on portraiture. But it was not posed. I was just walking by and witnessed this beautiful moment.
These rankings get less precise as they go on. The first five, ten, twelve or so deserve their relative positions but, after that, please consider the photos in clumps, broader and broader clumps of equal value that form an ever widening pyramid of strong faves.
This photo could easily appear earlier in the portfolio. I placed it here because it required cropping and because of the somewhat distracting figure centre background.
