This composition is not bad but is a bit cluttered. Sometimes you just can't capture a moving subject with clean separation from its background. If the photo were B&W I would dodge the background around the heads of the trio on the scooter to help define them a little better. But if B&W, we'd miss the glorious pink of the family's packs and bags.

I grabbed this shot while walking to the Neapolitan ferry dock toting a backpack myself. My partner and I were leaving the city during morning rush hour. I looked over my shoulder as we entered the crosswalk because we were racing the traffic light. This scooter was also racing the light. I already had my camera in hand. It was a small point and shoot that I can operate with one hand. In a busy location, I often walk with it cupped in my hand, powered on. Paid off here.

This photo contains so many intimate, charming details. Off to school we go.

I was so lucky to be so close to this moment. Having this mom corner right in front of me meant she was close, perpendicular to me, not moving too quickly, and leaning the scooter. A shot of her from any other angle would not have been nearly as interesting.
