With careful inspection this photo invites you into this little boy's world. To expedite check-out, this grocery store asks you to bag your own purchases, and employs parallel conveyors so that one belt can be loaded by the cashier while the other is being cleared. A little switch controls the belt being bagged. The boy is helping his mother by operating this switch. At the same time, he is playing with a toy car with his other hand.

Technically the inside of a store is not public space and I was taking liberties pulling out my camera there. Luckily the store had no strong policy against photography, or no manager witnessed me takng the picture, or the cashier was distracted doing their job or was untrained in protecting patron's privacy or didn't care to intervene because they're not paid enough to care. As is my M.O., I didn't look to the cashier for permission. I didn't look around for managers. I pulled out my tiny camera, moved it into place casually as if doing so was natural, like scratching my nose or adjusting my glasses, took the picture and quickly returned the camera to my pocket in the same fashion.
