Spring 2018     Glade, B.C.

      last year's pruning pile

this year I planned to clean up our overgrown trees

I removed lower branches as suggested by the Fire Smart program

      this removed diseased wood too

this tree had died :(

scratch one off the bucket list: felled my first tree (and with a Swede saw!)

neighbour Jim helped fell a larger tree

thanks Jim!

all this pruning made many piles

my supervisor inspected all work

I also cleaned up the trees close to the house

I watered the area around the burn pile

ready to burn!

the grass around the fire needed regular re-watering

I fed the fire all afternoon

it didn't take many branches to make the fire too hot to approach

finally, all the piles of pruning were burnt

9 hours after lighting the fire

a rain shower failed to put out the fire

next morning, 'twas still burning

white areas are hot spots

I raked the fire regularly to keep it hot

        still burning

        still burning

3 days later, the fire was out; only a thin layer of fine white ash remained

the cats enjoy the clean yard
